Introduction
Over the years, Nottinghamshire County Council has gained a strong reputation in the field of sustainable energy. Recently the authority achieved its corporate plan target (1998 – 2003) of a 25% reduction in CO 2 emissions from its buildings and is now committed to a Public Service Agreement (PSA) target to stretch this to 27% - the first PSA in the UK to include CO 2 reduction target.
The Council’s focus has also been widened to include the roles that transport, street lighting, waste and procurement have in relation to sustainable energy. A holistic carbon management plan will take this agenda forward and the authority is keen to work with others who wish to adopt a similar approach.
