What is the Sustainable Business Network?
The Sustainable Business Network is a business-focussed service administered by the Institute which provides on-going support to improve business efficiency in the East Midlands region. With a focus on smaller businesses (less than 250 employees and £24m turnover) the Network provides a central point for support on environmental issues through its main partner organisations, as well as sign-posting for a variety of other relevant services and access to investment.

How will my organisation benefit?
Environmental legislation and customer pressure are a major part of modern business life and the risk of non-compliance is ever growing. The benefits of managing or improving your environmental performance include:

  • An increased competitive advantage – more and more of your customers are likely to be looking at “greening” their supply chain. Action by you NOW can help to give you a competitive advantage over your competitors.
  • Cost savings due to more efficient use of resources – it is EASY to make savings on waste and energy that you can either use to increase your profit or to make you more competitive.
  • Being able to respond proactively to legislation – do you know ALL the relevant legislation? The average fine for non-compliance in the UK is now £9,000 and there are the clean-up costs.
  • Reduced supplementary costs – insurance premiums are often reduced and finance easier to obtain if you can demonstrate that you are taking steps to reduce your environmental risks.

What will I receive?
The Sustainable Business Network has received investment to provide FREE and/or heavily subsidised consultancy support to companies within the East Midlands with the following:

  • a Start-Up Review of current environmental performance.
  • assistance with developing an environmental policy statement and action plan.
  • ongoing support and advice on developing an environmental management system (e.g. ISO 14001 / EMAS / BS8555.)
  • advice on energy, waste and other environmental issues.
  • on-site environmental assistance.
  • seminars and training events
  • environmental auditing
  • advice on Health and Safety.
  • free helpline and information service.
