The Institute has completed a project, the Giant Green Umbrella (GGU) which received ERDF funding to work with businesses in Greater Nottingham in order to strengthen the links between business and social enterprises.
Social Enterprises
The Giant Green Umbrella (GGU) provides work opportunities and experience for people disadvantaged in the labour market by helping to develop environmental social enterprises.
It is an umbrella project which works with SEEM (Social Enterprise East Midlands) to support the development of social enterprises to recycle, re-use and refurbish waste materials from businesses and local authorities. http://www.seem.uk.net/
Social Enterprises are defined as ‘businesses that trade for a social purpose’. Other models of social enterprise include development trusts, co-operatives, intermediate labour markets, community businesses and credit unions.
A Social Firm specifically provides employment for people with disabilities. For further information go to:
