Aim
To secure the future of Gainsborough Recycling Enterprises by it becoming a sustainable, independent enterprise.
Background
Gainsborough Recycling Enterprises collects and sorts recycled materials from over 3,000 households in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, and the surrounding area. The business is expanding daily and provides work for almost 30 people with learning disabilities, plus volunteers, and New Deal placements.
The study is to investigate whether the business, currently funded by Social Services, is viable long-term and could transfer to being an independent social enterprise, funded through its recycling service and the employment support and training it provides.
Objectives and expected outcomes
- To enhance the facilities and options for the volunteers in the project
- To provide an enhanced service to the local community
- To seek appropriate income for the recycling, training and disability support services provided.
- To initiate the transfer from social services to independent control as a Social Enterprise.
